Alonso Powers Mets to Game 6 in NLCS
The New York Mets are one step closer to the World Series! They're headed to Game 6 of the NLCS after a thrilling 3-2 victory over the San Diego Padres, thanks to a massive home run by Pete Alonso in the 7th inning. It was Alonso's second homer of the game, and it sent Citi Field into a frenzy.
The game was tight from the get-go, with both teams trading blows. The Mets jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on a solo homer by Francisco Lindor, but the Padres tied it up in the second on a sacrifice fly by Manny Machado. It was a back-and-forth affair until Alonso's heroics.
Alonso had a rough start to the series, but he showed up big time in Game 5. He started the scoring with a two-run blast in the third inning, giving the Mets a 2-1 lead. The Padres tied the game again in the sixth on a solo homer by Trent Grisham, but Alonso wasn't done.
With the game tied in the seventh, Alonso stepped up to the plate with two outs and a runner on first. He crushed a pitch from Padres reliever Robert Suarez, sending the ball soaring over the right field wall. The entire stadium erupted in celebration as Alonso rounded the bases.
The Mets' bullpen shut down the Padres in the final two innings, sealing the victory. The win keeps the Mets' season alive and forces Game 6 back in San Diego. They'll need to win that game to advance to the World Series.
Can the Mets do it? We'll have to wait and see. But one thing's for sure: Alonso is a force to be reckoned with in the playoffs. He's playing with a chip on his shoulder and looking to lead the Mets to the promised land. This guy is absolutely crushing it!
