Aston Villa Players Rated: Bologna Match - A Mixed Bag in Italy
So, the lads went to Italy and played Bologna, eh? It wasn't exactly a walk in the park, but there were some bright spots too. Let's break down the performance, player by player, and see who shone and who, well, didn't quite.
Goalkeepers
Emiliano Martínez (7/10): Emi was his usual self - commanding, confident, and making a couple of crucial saves. He was a real presence in the box, even if he did get a bit of a scare when a Bologna player almost got a goal past him.
Robin Olsen (N/A): The Swedish goalie didn't see any action in the game, so it's tough to rate him.
Defenders
Matty Cash (6.5/10): Cashy was solid as ever, but didn't really get forward as much as usual. He's starting to become one of the most reliable defenders in the league, though.
Ezri Konsa (7/10): Ezri was a rock at the back, and his aerial presence was a real asset. He also managed to get forward a couple of times, which is a good sign.
Tyrone Mings (7/10): Mingsy was composed and organized, leading the back line with his usual confidence. He didn't let anything past him and helped to keep the team's shape.
Lucas Digne (6/10): Digne had some moments of brilliance but was also caught out of position a few times. He needs to be a bit more careful and focused, but his attacking threat is undeniable.
Ashley Young (6/10): Youngy did what Youngy does. He worked hard, provided experience, and defended well. He's still a valuable asset, but his legs aren't quite what they used to be.
Midfielders
Douglas Luiz (7/10): Douglas was fantastic, dictating play and making some crucial tackles. He's really starting to come into his own, and he's going to be a key player for us going forward.
John McGinn (6.5/10): John always gives his all, but he didn't quite have his usual impact on the game. He was still involved in the play but lacked his usual incisiveness.
Boubacar Kamara (6/10): Kamara was a bit quiet in the game, but he was still tidy in possession and defensively sound. He's got huge potential, and I'm excited to see him develop even further.
Jacob Ramsey (7.5/10): Ramsey was the livewire in midfield, carrying the ball forward with real purpose. He was our most threatening attacking player and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet.
Morgan Sanson (6/10): Sanson came on late and helped to control the game in the midfield, showing flashes of his quality. He's still trying to find his feet at Villa, but he's got the potential to be a real asset.
Forwards
Ollie Watkins (7/10): Watkins always works hard, and he was a real nuisance for the Bologna defense. He was a bit wasteful in front of goal, but he got into some good positions.
Leon Bailey (6/10): Bailey was a threat down the wing, but he lacked the final touch in the box. He's a real talent, though, and I'm confident he'll start scoring goals soon.
Danny Ings (6.5/10): Ings was lively after coming on as a substitute. He held the ball up well and linked up well with his teammates, showing that he's a real goal threat.
Overall, it was a decent performance from Villa. We didn't quite get the win we were looking for, but there were some positives to take away from the game. The team's still gelling, and there's still plenty of potential for improvement.
