Biden's "Garbage" vs. Harris' "Deplorables": Parallels in Political Rhetoric
It's pretty obvious that politicians can sometimes say some pretty dumb stuff. We've all seen it, heard it, and probably even said it ourselves at some point (maybe not in a national address, though!). But lately, the way politicians are speaking to each other, and even to the people they represent, seems to be getting a littleā¦intense.
Remember that time when Joe Biden called some folks "garbage" during a speech? Or when Kamala Harris called out a group of people as "deplorables"? These kinds of comments, while probably not intentional, can really rub people the wrong way. And they're certainly not helping to bring our political discourse back from the brink.
Now, let's be fair, it's not always easy to choose your words carefully when you're in the heat of the moment. But using language like that to describe a segment of the population, even if they hold different political views, can be incredibly damaging. It's like pouring gasoline on a fire that's already out of control.
What's the big deal anyway? Isn't it just a few words? Well, words matter. Especially when they come from the mouths of powerful people. When we use inflammatory language like this, we are not only dividing ourselves further, but we are also sending a dangerous message to those who are already feeling marginalized and unheard.
Instead of resorting to name-calling, shouldn't our leaders be focusing on building bridges? After all, we're all Americans, even if we don't agree on everything. It's time to put down the political weapons and start having some real conversations.
Maybe then, we can actually start to solve the problems facing our country.
What do you think? Do you think it's just "a few words" or is it something more? Let's talk about it in the comments below.
