Cowboys Fall to Falcons, Cousins Shines, but Dallas Defense Struggles
It was a tale of two quarterbacks in Atlanta on Sunday, as the Dallas Cowboys fell to the Atlanta Falcons 30-20. While Dak Prescott had a rough day, throwing two interceptions, Kirk Cousins led the Falcons to a dominant win with a near-perfect performance.
The Cowboys came out firing, with Prescott looking sharp early on. He connected with CeeDee Lamb for a touchdown on the opening drive, and the offense seemed to be in rhythm. But things took a turn for the worse in the second quarter, as the Falcons’ defense tightened up and Prescott began to make some questionable throws. He threw a costly pick-six in the second quarter that completely shifted the momentum of the game.
Cousins, on the other hand, was a masterclass in efficiency. He completed 22 of 27 passes for 249 yards and three touchdowns, carving up the Cowboys' defense with surgical precision. The Falcons' offense was able to control the clock and keep the pressure on Dallas, and the Cowboys’ defense just couldn't get a stop when it mattered.
It wasn’t all bad for the Cowboys. Running back Tony Pollard had a strong game, rushing for 103 yards and a touchdown. But it wasn't enough to overcome the Falcons' dominant performance.
The Cowboys will need to regroup quickly if they want to stay in contention in the NFC East. They'll face a tough test next week against the Philadelphia Eagles, a team that's looking to prove they're the real deal in the division.
The Cowboys need to figure out what's going on with their defense. It was a complete no-show against the Falcons, and that's a huge concern moving forward. If they can't tighten things up defensively, it'll be a long season for Dallas.
But hey, at least Cousins looked good! It's always nice to see a veteran quarterback dominate like he did on Sunday.
Here are some takeaways from the game:
- The Cowboys need to improve their red zone efficiency. They had several drives stall out inside the Falcons' 20-yard line.
- The offensive line needs to provide better protection for Prescott. He was pressured all game, which led to some poor decisions.
- The Cowboys' defense needs to find a way to stop the run. The Falcons ran all over Dallas.
- The Cowboys are still a good team, but they're not as invincible as they looked early in the season. This loss should be a wake-up call.
