Daylight Saving Time: Time Change Tips to Survive the Spring Forward
Ugh, Daylight Saving Time. Every spring, it feels like we're all forced to adjust our internal clocks, which is basically the worst. We're all tired, grumpy, and just trying to survive until we can set our clocks back in the fall.
But don't worry, you don't have to suffer through the time change like a zombie. I've got some tips to help you spring forward without feeling completely clocked out.
Get Ready for the Time Change
- Plan Ahead: Start prepping a few days before the time change. If you're used to getting up at 7 am, try waking up at 6:45 am for a few days before the switch.
- No More Late Nights: Avoid staying up late the night before the time change. You'll just be even more exhausted the next morning.
- Make it a "Clock Change Day": Treat the day of the time change like a mini-holiday. Use this as a chance to do some chores you've been putting off, or catch up on some reading.
Survive the Spring Forward
- Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate: Staying hydrated is key to keeping your energy up, especially when you're tired.
- Get Some Sunshine: Head outside for some fresh air and sunshine. Sunlight helps regulate your sleep-wake cycle.
- Don't Skip Your Nap: If you feel like you're dragging, don't fight it! Take a short power nap to recharge.
- Have Coffee (or Tea) Ready: A little bit of caffeine can definitely help you feel more alert.
- Don't Be Afraid to Ask for Help: If you have kids, ask your partner or a friend for some extra help around the house.
Prepare for Fall Back
As much as we all hate Daylight Saving Time, I'll admit that I actually kind of miss it a bit during the fall. When you get to fall back, you get a little extra sleep, which is always a good thing. But it's still a good idea to try to gradually shift your sleep schedule a few days before the time change.
Bonus Tip: Always check with your local government to confirm the exact dates for Daylight Saving Time.
