"Don't Move" Review: Overly Contrived Thriller
Let's be honest, you've seen this movie before. "Don't Move" tries to throw a few twists and turns at you, but ultimately it's just a rehash of every thriller cliché you've ever encountered. It's like a bad game of "Clue" with a dash of "Saw" thrown in for good measure.
The premise is simple: a group of friends gets trapped in a house with a masked killer. Sounds familiar, right? What sets this movie apart (or at least tries to) is the "Don't Move" aspect. The killer has a special weapon that paralyzes his victims, leaving them helpless and unable to move.
The problem? The execution is just plain awful. The acting is wooden, the dialogue is clunky, and the suspense is nonexistent. You can practically predict every jump scare and every twist. The "Don't Move" gimmick is more of a hindrance than a help, as it limits the characters' ability to interact with the environment or each other. It just makes the whole thing feel incredibly contrived and unrealistic.
The only thing worse than the acting and the script are the special effects. The paralysis weapon looks like something out of a high school science fair, and the "gore" is more laughable than scary. It's clear that the budget for this movie was as limited as the screenwriter's imagination.
If you're looking for a thrilling experience, give "Don't Move" a big ol' pass. It's a waste of time and money that will leave you wishing you'd just stayed home and watched something else. Or, even better, just move on to a different movie. You'll be happier in the long run, trust me.
