European Football: Hearts Beat Omonia in Round-Up
Hearts of Midlothian got their UEFA Conference League campaign off to a flyer, beating Cypriot side Omonia 2-1 at Tynecastle. It wasn't all smooth sailing, though.
The Jambos were a bit shaky early on, but they really turned it on in the second half. A cracking goal from Lawrence Shankland put them ahead, and then Josh Ginnelly sealed the deal with a cool finish. Omonia pulled one back late, but it was too little, too late.
The win for Hearts was a massive boost for their confidence. They're looking to make a real go of this competition, and a home win against a decent side is a great start.
Elsewhere in Europe...
West Ham had a tough time in their Conference League opener, drawing 1-1 with Danish side Viborg FF. Declan Rice bagged the equalizer for the Hammers, but they'll need to be more clinical if they want to progress.
Rangers also got their Europa League campaign underway with a 2-0 win over Union Saint-Gilloise. It was a bit of a frustrating affair, but goals from Antonio Colak and James Tavernier got the job done.
Celtic had a much easier time of it, demolishing Real Madrid in the Champions League (just kidding, they lost 3-0). But hey, at least Kyogo Furuhashi scored a goal against the mighty Real Madrid, right?
It's going to be a long and exciting season for Scottish clubs in Europe, with a lot of ups and downs to come. But one thing's for sure: we'll be watching closely!
