City Squeak Past Southampton Thanks to Haaland Heroics
Erling Haaland once again proved he's a true goal machine, bagging the only goal in Manchester City's narrow 1-0 victory over Southampton at the Etihad Stadium. It wasn't the most convincing performance from Pep Guardiola's side, but three points is three points, right?
City dominated possession and created chances, but struggled to break down a stubborn Southampton defense. The Saints, to their credit, played with real grit and determination, making life incredibly difficult for the reigning Premier League champions.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 32nd minute when Haaland received a brilliant cross from Kevin De Bruyne and coolly slotted the ball past Gavin Bazunu. It was the Norwegian's 13th goal in just nine Premier League games, a ridiculous scoring rate that's leaving defenders across the league shaking in their boots.
Southampton fought hard for an equalizer, but City's defense held strong. Despite the lack of goals, the game was a tense affair, with both sides going for it. In the end, though, City's quality shone through, securing another vital three points.
It's fair to say that City aren't quite firing on all cylinders yet this season, but they're finding ways to win. With Haaland in such devastating form, City will be a force to be reckoned with in the title race.
