Iginla Roots for Backlund's Franchise Record
Jarome Iginla is a Calgary Flames legend. Mark Giordano is another. And now, Elias Lindholm is making a strong case for himself as one of the team's greatest.
But while Lindholm is putting up incredible numbers, he's still got a ways to go before he catches Backlund's record. Iginla knows a thing or two about scoring goals in Calgary, and he's rooting for Backlund to break that record.
Backlund is currently tied with Giordano for the most points by a Flames player since 2010. He's got a good chance to surpass Giordano this season, which would make him the undisputed points leader since that era.
Iginla, who holds the Flames' all-time scoring record, is impressed with Backlund's consistency. He sees a lot of himself in Backlund's game. Iginla says Backlund is a true leader who always puts the team first.
Backlund is a quiet guy, but Iginla says that doesn't mean he's not passionate about the game. He's got a fire in his belly and Iginla thinks that's what makes him such a great player.
This is the kind of stuff that gets you excited about Calgary Flames hockey. These are the players that make the team so special. And if Backlund can break the franchise record, it'll be a moment that everyone will remember.
It's a big deal. It's a big deal for the Flames and it's a big deal for Backlund. Iginla is a big supporter of Backlund, and I think everyone in Calgary is rooting for him.
Let's go Flames!
