India vs New Zealand 2nd Test: Day 1 - A Day of Dominance for the Kiwis
The second Test match between India and New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai started with a bang! The Kiwis, who were outplayed in the first Test, came out with fire in their bellies, and completely dominated the day.
Early Wickets and a Strong Start
The Indian team, looking to bounce back from the first Test loss, got off to a horrible start. The opening partnership was quickly broken, with Mayank Agarwal falling to a brilliant catch by Tom Blundell. The rest of the Indian top order simply couldn't cope with the Kiwi pace attack. Ajinkya Rahane, Virat Kohli, and Cheteshwar Pujara all fell cheaply, leaving India reeling at 43/4.
A Brief Resistance, Then Collapse
Shreyas Iyer and Hanuma Vihari put on a brief resistance but couldn't build a substantial partnership. The Kiwi bowlers, especially Tim Southee and Kyle Jamieson, were relentless, keeping the pressure on. India lost their last six wickets for just 57 runs, ending the day on a paltry 101.
A Strong Bowling Performance
The Kiwi bowlers were absolutely on fire. Tim Southee was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4/14 and putting the Indian batsmen under immense pressure. Kyle Jamieson was equally impressive, taking 3/21. The Kiwis were clinical in their bowling, and the Indian batsmen simply couldn't handle the pace and bounce.
New Zealand's Advantage
The day ended with New Zealand on 61/0 at the end of the first day's play, with a strong lead of 40 runs. Will Young and Tom Latham looked comfortable at the crease, and New Zealand will be looking to build on their strong start and take a commanding lead in the match.
This was a day where New Zealand completely dominated. India will need to come back strong on Day 2 if they want to stay in the game. Can India recover and fight back, or will the Kiwis continue their dominance? Tune in tomorrow to find out!
