Italiano Upbeat Despite Phoenix Preseason Struggles
The Phoenix Suns may not be setting the world on fire during the preseason, but head coach Monty Williams is keeping a cool head. Despite a few rough games, Williams is confident in his team's ability to bounce back.
"It's preseason, man," Williams said after the Suns' latest loss. "We're still figuring things out, working on our chemistry and trying to find our rhythm. We're not gonna panic over a few losses."
One bright spot for the Suns has been the play of veteran guard Marco Belinelli. Belinelli, who returned to Phoenix this season after a stint with the San Antonio Spurs, has shown flashes of his scoring prowess and has brought a veteran presence to the young Suns roster.
"He's a real pro, you know?" Williams said of Belinelli. "He's been in this league for a long time, and he knows how to play the game. He's a great leader for our guys, and he's helping them learn."
The Suns are hoping to build on their success from last season, when they made it to the Western Conference Finals. While they'll face a tough road to repeat that success, Williams remains optimistic about his team's chances.
"We're gonna be fine, we're gonna be alright," Williams said. "We're going to keep working hard and improving, and we're going to be ready when the regular season starts."
The Suns' first regular season game is scheduled for October 26th, against the Los Angeles Clippers. We'll see if they can build on their preseason momentum and make a run at the championship.
