J.J. McCarthy: From Wolverine to Viking?
Hold up, did you hear that right? J.J. McCarthy, the quarterback who led Michigan to the College Football Playoff, is now coaching the Vikings? Nope, not exactly. But hold on, this is actually kinda cool.
J.J. McCarthy was invited to the Vikings' training camp, not as a coach, but as a "camp counselor" for the Rams' offensive players. This means he's giving the Rams some real-time practice reps, and getting to learn from the best – the Vikings coaches and players!
It's a pretty sweet deal for McCarthy. He gets to experience what life is like in the NFL, brush up on his skills, and maybe even get a glimpse of what his future might hold. It's also a great opportunity for the Rams to get some extra practice against a fresh, talented arm.
While the Rams are probably not too worried about McCarthy's threat, it's still a great opportunity for him to show off his skills. Who knows, maybe he'll impress someone enough to get a call from a team later down the line?
But why the Vikings? Well, it's all thanks to Vikings offensive coordinator Wes Phillips, who is buddies with J.J.'s dad, Jim McCarthy. They were both coaches together at the University of Pittsburgh, and it seems their friendship carried over to the NFL.
This whole thing is a pretty cool example of how connections in the football world can lead to some pretty awesome opportunities. We're definitely going to be keeping our eyes on McCarthy, and see what he can do in the future. Maybe he'll actually be coaching the Vikings one day, who knows!
