Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) Dominate Selangor, Secure 3-0 Win
The Southern Tigers roared to victory in a commanding performance against Selangor on Saturday, securing a convincing 3-0 win at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium. JDT’s dominance was evident from the get-go, with a relentless attacking style that left the Red Giants struggling to keep up.
It was a night for the Southern Tigers to flex their muscles and show why they are the reigning champions. From the first whistle, JDT went on the offensive, pressing high and creating chances with ease. It didn't take long for the first goal to come, with Bergson da Silva opening the scoring in the 15th minute. The Brazilian striker received a clever pass from Fernando Forestieri and finished with precision, leaving Selangor goalkeeper Khairul Fahmi with no chance.
Selangor, on the other hand, looked out of sorts. They struggled to string together passes, their defense was shaky, and they lacked the creativity to penetrate the JDT backline. It was a frustrating night for the Red Giants, who were simply unable to cope with the relentless pressure from their opponents.
JDT doubled their lead in the 35th minute, with Leandro Velazquez scoring a beautiful goal from a free-kick. The Argentinian curled the ball expertly past the wall, leaving Khairul Fahmi rooted to the spot. It was a truly stunning goal, and it seemed to demoralize Selangor even further.
The second half was largely a formality. JDT continued to dominate possession and create chances, and they finally sealed the victory in the 72nd minute when Safawi Rasid added the third goal. The Malaysian international received a cross from Arif Aiman and slotted the ball home from close range. It was a deserved win for JDT, who were simply the better team on the night.
This win strengthens JDT's grip at the top of the Malaysian Super League (MSL) table. They now have 22 points from 9 matches, and are looking unstoppable in their pursuit of a record-breaking ninth consecutive league title.
For Selangor, this defeat was a major setback. They remain in fifth place with 13 points, and they will need to improve their performance significantly if they want to challenge for a top-four finish this season. Their defense in particular needs serious attention.
With this dominant victory, JDT have sent a strong message to the rest of the MSL teams. They are the team to beat, and they are showing no signs of slowing down.
