Norris Takes Brazilian Sprint, But Calls Out McLaren's Team Orders
Lewis Hamilton might have taken pole position for the Brazilian Grand Prix, but it was Lando Norris who stole the show in the Sprint race. The young Brit, who's been on fire this season, battled his way to the front, leaving his rivals in the dust.
But while the win was a sweet taste of victory, Norris wasn't shy about airing his frustration with McLaren's team orders. You see, after a strong start, Lando was leading the race, but then McLaren told him to let Oscar Piastri, his teammate, pass. This, according to Norris, didn't make sense, especially considering Piastri was struggling for pace.
"I don't understand why they asked me to let Oscar through," Norris said after the race, his voice laced with disappointment. "I was in the lead, I was managing the tires well. I think they just wanted to see what would happen, but it didn't really work out for us."
This wasn't just a case of the team playing it safe either. McLaren is fighting for a top-five finish in the Constructors' Championship, and a win for Norris would have been a massive boost.
"It's frustrating," Norris continued, "because I was on fire out there. I had the pace to win, but it felt like the team wasn't letting me. It's a team game, but I think we need to be smarter with our strategy. Maybe we can have a better conversation about it next time."
While Norris ultimately finished second, the team orders certainly left a sour taste in his mouth. The question now is whether this incident will cause tension within the team, or if McLaren will learn from their mistakes and give Norris the freedom to race for wins in the future.
This race was a microcosm of the entire season for Norris – he's been incredibly quick, but team orders and strategy have sometimes held him back.
With the Brazilian Grand Prix just around the corner, it'll be interesting to see how Norris performs and what strategies McLaren will employ. Will they finally give him the chance to fight for victory, or will team orders continue to play a role in his weekend?
We'll have to wait and see, but one thing is certain - Lando Norris isn't afraid to speak his mind. And that's a refreshing change in a sport that often feels too controlled and scripted.
Stay tuned!
