A True Philly Son: Remembering Holden Trent
It's tough to put into words what the Philadelphia Union family is feeling right now. We're all heartbroken, man. Holden Trent, a young player who was just starting to make his mark on the Union, passed away on July 13th, 2023. He was only 21 years old.
Holden was a local kid, born and raised in Philly. He was a true Union fan, dreaming of playing for his hometown team. He joined the Union Academy in 2018, and his talent was obvious right away. He worked his way up the ranks, earning a spot on the first team in 2021. His energy and passion were infectious. He was a real sparkplug on the field.
He played in 17 MLS games for the Union. And while he may not have had a ton of playing time yet, he was always working hard to get better. He was a team player, always ready to support his teammates. He was a real Philly guy - tough, determined, and always giving 110%.
His passing is a huge loss for the Union and the entire soccer community. It’s just a shame he didn’t get more time to show what he was capable of. We will miss Holden's energy and his fighting spirit. He was a true Philly son.
The Impact Beyond the Pitch
It’s not just about the goals and assists, you know? Holden was a great guy off the field too. He was a bright light, always smiling and making everyone around him feel good. He was involved in community outreach programs, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was the type of player who could inspire a whole generation of young players to follow their dreams.
His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. The Union is planning a memorial service to honor his memory, and his number 48 will be retired by the club.
