They'll emphasize all the fancy features of the "upgraded" model to make you think it's a good deal. But really, they're just trying to make you pay more.

Fake Sales and Discounts

Sometimes you see signs like "50% OFF!" plastered everywhere, but the prices are actually just inflated to make the sale look bigger. They're making you think you're getting a steal, even though you're still paying full price.

Example: You see a jacket marked down from $150 to $75. Sounds great, right? But if you check online, you see that the jacket was never actually $150 – it was always $75! They're just making you think you're getting a bargain.

Bundled Deals

These can be tempting, but they can also be a trap. They bundle a bunch of items together at a "discounted" price, but you might not actually need all the stuff in the bundle. And, if you do want some of the items, you'll probably end up paying more for the whole bundle than you would if you bought those items separately.

Example: You see a bundle offer for a new phone, a case, and a screen protector, all for $100. Sounds great, right? But you already have a case and screen protector. If you buy the bundle, you're paying for stuff you don't need, and you're actually paying more for the phone than you would if you bought it alone.

Hidden Fees

This is where things get really sneaky. They'll advertise a price, but then add extra fees at the checkout. They might charge for shipping, taxes, or even a processing fee. The advertised price might be great, but those extra fees can really add up!

Example: You see a great deal on a flight, but when you're ready to book, you find out there's a $50 baggage fee, a $20 reservation fee, and a $10 security fee. The flight might be cheap, but you're still paying a hefty price for those hidden fees!

How to Protect Yourself

It's not all doom and gloom though! You can arm yourself against these price traps.

• Don't be pressured: If you feel like you're being pressured into buying something, walk away! It's not worth it.
