Selangor Stunned by JDT in Home Loss
Selangor's hopes of a comeback were dashed on Saturday as they suffered a crushing 3-0 defeat to Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) at the Petaling Jaya Stadium. The Red Giants were simply outplayed by the Southern Tigers, who dominated the game from start to finish.
JDT were looking for revenge after a shock defeat to Selangor in the FA Cup earlier this month. And boy, did they get it! Their relentless attacking style proved too much for the Selangor defense, and the visitors found the back of the net early and often.
The first goal came in the 15th minute, when Bergson da Silva headed home a cross from the dangerous winger, Safawi Rasid. Selangor tried to respond, but JDT were in complete control. The second goal arrived in the 35th minute, as the dangerous Diogo Luis Santo finished off a slick move with a cool finish. The game was effectively over at this point.
The final nail in the coffin came in the 60th minute when the ever-reliable Safawi Rasid curled in a beautiful free kick that left Selangor keeper, Azri Akbar, with no chance. The Selangor fans, who had come out in full force, were left stunned by the performance of their team.
Selangor will need to bounce back quickly from this defeat, as their next match is against a tough Kedah side. The Red Giants will be hoping to get back to winning ways and get their season back on track. But for now, the frustration is real.
