Sporting vs. Man City: LIVE Champions League Updates
It's Champions League night! And the pressure is on for Manchester City as they head to Lisbon to face Sporting CP in the first leg of their Round of 16 tie.
Will City cruise to victory? Or will Sporting pull off a shock upset? Let's find out!
First Half - A Slow Burn
Man City started out looking a little sluggish, with Sporting holding their own in the early stages. The first real chance came in the 15th minute, with Phil Foden firing a shot just wide. The Portuguese side were defending well and looked dangerous on the counter-attack.
But then came the goal. A moment of magic from Kevin De Bruyne, who picked out Riyad Mahrez with a delightful pass. Mahrez calmly slotted it home for the opening goal. It was a deserved lead for City, but Sporting remained a threat.
Second Half - A Glimpse of City's Dominance
The second half started in similar fashion, with City dominating possession but failing to create clear-cut chances. The pressure finally told in the 67th minute, when Bernardo Silva doubled the lead. It was a beautiful team goal, with City's slick passing ripping through the Sporting defense.
The tie was pretty much over at that point, with City comfortably holding onto their lead. However, the final moments brought a bit of drama. Sporting pulled one back in the 83rd minute, leaving City fans biting their nails until the final whistle.
Full Time - A Comfortable Win for City
The final score: Sporting CP 1 - 2 Manchester City.
It wasn't a classic performance from City, but they got the job done in the end. They'll be confident going into the second leg at the Etihad, but Sporting are still capable of pulling off a surprise.
