Titans Cut Hopkins: Was it Worth the Contract?
The Tennessee Titans made a big splash this offseason by signing veteran wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to a two-year, $26 million contract. But it didn't work out. And they cut him.
The move was surprising, but it highlights the gamble that the Titans took on Hopkins. While he's still got some juice left, he's also a 31-year-old receiver with a history of injuries. And maybe the Titans didn't see enough from him on the field to justify his hefty price tag.
So, what did the Titans get for their money?
Hopkins had a decent, but not spectacular, season in Nashville. He finished the year with 67 catches for 818 yards and three touchdowns. Those stats are decent, but they're not eye-popping for a player of his caliber. And his production was a bit inconsistent, making it harder for the Titans to trust him on a game-to-game basis.
But was it all his fault?
Hopkins might argue that he was just a victim of circumstance. He was part of a Titans offense that wasn't exactly a juggernaut. Ryan Tannehill didn't always get him the ball, and the Titans' running game sometimes struggled, which also made it tougher for Hopkins to have a big impact.
It's a tough situation, and there's no easy answer. The Titans were hoping that Hopkins could be a game-changer. He wasn't. Now, they're left with some tough decisions about their future at the wide receiver position. But hey, at least they didn't have to pay him that big contract anymore.
What do you think, folks? Was the Hopkins signing a bust? Let us know in the comments!
