UMW Honors Veterans with Meaningful Events
University of Mary Washington (UMW) showed their appreciation for veterans this Veterans Day with a variety of events designed to remember and honor their service. It was awesome to see the whole campus come together for this!
The day started with a moving ceremony in the University Center, featuring a keynote address by a distinguished veteran and the presentation of the UMW Veterans Medal. The medal is awarded annually to a student who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and commitment to service. It was super inspiring to hear the recipient's story!
Later in the day, the university hosted a special "Veterans Appreciation Luncheon" in the dining hall. This event offered an opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to connect with veterans and learn more about their experiences. It was a real chance to show our support and say thank you to those who served our country.
The day concluded with a screening of a documentary about the impact of war on veterans, followed by a panel discussion with veterans from different branches of the military. It was a powerful experience, and I think everyone left feeling more connected to our veterans.
The events at UMW were a reminder of the importance of honoring our veterans, not just on Veterans Day, but every day. They're the ones who have sacrificed so much for our freedom and deserve our constant appreciation.
It's great to see a university like UMW taking the lead in promoting awareness and support for veterans. They're setting a good example for other institutions and communities across the country. Let's all do our part to show our veterans how much we care.
Here's to our veterans! 🇺🇸
