Venom: The Last Dance - A Whimpering End

Venom 3, or Venom: Let There Be Carnage as it was officially titled, was a pretty fun time. Sure, it wasn’t a masterpiece of cinematic art or anything, but it was a solid, action-packed romp with a good dose of dark humor.

So when Sony announced Venom: The Last Dance (which I swear, that's what I'm calling it, because who comes up with these titles?!), I was cautiously optimistic. Would they finally give us the symbiote story we were all secretly hoping for? Or would it be another forgettable, over-the-top CGI spectacle?

Unfortunately, it was the latter.

A Missed Opportunity for Depth

The film's biggest crime is its complete disregard for the potential depth of the symbiote relationship. We've all seen the dynamic between Eddie Brock and Venom, the constant battle for control, the begrudging partnership. This time, it felt like they just threw that out the window.

Venom's character development? Gone. The internal conflict between symbiote and host? Forgotten. We’re left with a character who’s basically a wacky sidekick, spouting out one-liners and cracking jokes. It’s a shame, because it had the potential to be something more.

A Bland Villain and a Predictable Plot

Let’s talk about the villain, the “Last Dance” antagonist, whoever that may be. I won't spoil it, but let’s just say that the mystery surrounding their identity was about as thrilling as watching paint dry.

The film’s plot itself is just as predictable. There’s a predictable villain, a predictable threat, and a predictable hero (or, uh, anti-hero) who ultimately saves the day. It's a cookie-cutter formula that feels like a lazy cash-grab.

What Could Have Been

Venom: The Last Dance could have been so much more. Imagine a film that explored the darker side of the symbiote's nature, the ethical complexities of Eddie's partnership with Venom.

Imagine a film with a truly compelling villain, someone who posed a genuine threat to Eddie and Venom, forcing them to confront their own flaws and limitations. Instead, we got a predictable, forgettable movie that simply failed to live up to its potential.

A Last Dance? Maybe. But Definitely Not a Farewell.

Despite the film's shortcomings, Sony seems determined to keep the Venom franchise alive. So maybe this isn’t the Last Dance after all, just a misstep in a larger, convoluted story.

But if they want to keep the fans engaged, they need to rethink their strategy and deliver a film that doesn't just rely on spectacle and cheap laughs. Give us a film that explores the complex relationship between Eddie and Venom, a film that takes us on a truly thrilling and emotional journey.

And maybe, just maybe, a film with a title that doesn’t sound like a knockoff game show.
