Warriors Roll Over Blazers in Season Opener: 139-104 Blowout
Golden State's firepower was too much for Portland to handle, as the Warriors opened their season with a dominant 139-104 victory over the Blazers.
It was all Golden State from the jump. The Warriors, led by Steph Curry's 31 points, were on fire from deep and suffocating defensively. Portland, on the other hand, seemed to be in a fog, shooting poorly and turning the ball over way too much.
"It's always good to start the season with a win," said Curry, who also dished out 7 assists. "We were locked in defensively and that was key."
Klay Thompson added 23 points for the Warriors, while Draymond Green had a monster triple-double with 11 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds. The Warriors' balanced attack was too much for the Blazers, who were led by Damian Lillard's 22 points.
The Blazers, who are still trying to figure out their identity after trading CJ McCollum in the offseason, were never really in the game. They looked slow and uninspired, especially on defense. Portland also struggled to find any consistency on offense, shooting just 39% from the field.
"We got punched in the mouth and we didn't respond," said Blazers coach Chauncey Billups. "We need to be more physical and more aggressive."
The Warriors will look to keep the momentum going as they head on the road to face the Clippers on Wednesday, while the Blazers will try to bounce back at home against the Kings on Tuesday.
