Wolves Boss Furious Over "Stonewalling" City Goal
It's happened again! Another controversial goal in the Premier League, and this time Wolves boss, Bruno Lage, is fuming. His side were unlucky to lose 1-0 to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, and the only goal of the game was a real stinker.
The City goal, scored by Jack Grealish, came after a seemingly obvious foul on Wolves defender, Max Kilman. Kilman was clearly bundled over by Erling Haaland, who went on to get the assist for Grealish's strike. The ref, Michael Oliver, and VAR, both failed to spot the foul.
Lage was livid after the game. "It's unbelievable," he said. "It's a clear foul. It's stonewall! I don't understand how the ref didn't see it, and how VAR missed it. It's crazy."
He wasn't finished there. "It's not the first time this has happened to us this season. We seem to get a lot of bad decisions against us. It's frustrating."
Lage's anger is understandable. Wolves were the better team for long periods of the match. They had several good chances to score, but City's defense was tough to break down. The City goal felt like a real kick in the teeth for Wolves, especially after such a good performance.
The question is will the Premier League take action? Or will Wolves be left to feel like they're always on the back foot when it comes to these big decisions?
It's a conversation that needs to be had. The integrity of the game is on the line, and VAR, which was supposed to be the solution, seems to be adding to the problem rather than solving it.
