Hurricane Milton: A Family's Disney Hotel Adventure (and Misadventure)
Okay, so picture this: You're at Disney World, the happiest place on Earth, right? You've got those magical Mickey Mouse ears, you're all decked out in your best Disney attire, and you're ready for a week of pure, unadulterated fun. You've booked a stay at a Disney resort, you're pumped for the theme parks, and you're even dreaming of Mickey Mouse waffles for breakfast.
But then, bam! Hurricane Milton hits.
This was our family's story last summer. We had booked a week at Disney's All-Star Movies Resort, the kids were beside themselves with excitement, and we were ready to create some seriously epic memories. But Mother Nature had other plans. Just a few days before our trip, we started seeing news reports about this hurricane heading towards Florida.
The Storm is Brewing:
At first, it seemed like a passing threat. The forecasts were kinda wonky, and we figured it would just be a little rain and maybe some wind. But then the news got more serious, and the warnings about the storm intensified. It was clear that this was not just any storm - Hurricane Milton was gonna be a doozy!
Disney's Response:
Thankfully, Disney is pretty good at handling this kind of thing. They were on top of it, sending out updates to guests about the hurricane and the potential for evacuations. They gave us options for rebooking or cancelling our trip, which was good to know.
Our Decision:
After a lot of discussion (and some serious stress, lemme tell you), we decided to go. We figured, hey, we've come this far, let's make the most of it. We were gonna stay at the All-Star Movies Resort and see what happened.
The Ride-Out:
As Hurricane Milton approached, things got interesting. The wind picked up, the rain poured down, and the sky turned dark and scary. The Disney parks closed, and the resorts were put on lockdown. We spent the day hiding in our room, playing games, and watching movies. It was definitely a change of pace from the theme park fun we had planned.
The Aftermath:
The storm eventually passed, thankfully without causing major damage. The next day, the parks reopened and we were back to having fun. But the storm definitely added a unique twist to our Disney trip.
Lessons Learned:
We learned a lot from that experience. First, we learned that even in the midst of a hurricane, Disney can still be magical. The Cast Members were amazing, the resorts were well-prepared, and we still had a good time, even if it was a little different than expected.
Second, we learned that flexibility is key when you're traveling. Things don't always go as planned, and it's important to be able to adapt to unexpected situations.
Hurricane Milton may have thrown a wrench in our plans, but it also gave us a story we'll never forget. It's a reminder that even the best-laid plans can change, but that doesn't mean the fun has to end. Disney, even in the face of a hurricane, always has a way of making magic happen.
